Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis (Entertainment Books)

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects a number of organs in the body (especially the lungs and pancreas) by clogging them with thick, sticky mucus. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common life threatening, recessive genetic condition affecting Australian children.

At present there is no cure for CF, but the faulty gene has been identified and doctors and scientists are working to find ways of repairing or replacing it. One of the main objectives of the CFA Research Trust is to fund this work.

Leukaemia Foundation (World’s Greatest Shave)

Since 1998, World’s Greatest Shave has raised in excess of $120 million. Every hour, someone in Australia is diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Every two hours, someone dies from one of these blood cancers.
The money raised by the Leukaemia Foundation funds services to support patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders and funds blood cancer research to find better treatments and cures.

Multiple Sclerosis of SA

The Society was started in 1964 by a group of dedicated individuals who were living with MS or who were supporting someone with MS.

As the rate of diagnosis of MS has increased The Society has increased its capacity and the range of services has increased as the need for these has been identified. The Society fill the many gaps that occur between Health Department services and Disability services and also supplement the inadequate DSA (Disability SA) services in South Australia.

From supporting a few hundred people in the 60's, they now have over 1,500 members.

Neonatal Unit at the Flinders Medical Centre

Established in 1976, Flinders Medical Centre was the first medical school and teaching hospital in Australia to be planned and built as one institution.

Flinders Medical Centre provide a variety of services to ensure the health and wellbeing of newborn babies. If a baby needs special medical attention, the Neonatal Unit provides care for premature and newborn babies. The Unit has two areas, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a Special Care Nursery. Each year approximately 800 babies are cared for in the Neonatal Unit.

The Smith Family

The Hanson Institute Centre for Cancer Research

The Hanson Institute is the research division of the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science providing facilities for medical researchers on the campus including staff of the Royal Adelaide Hospital in close collaboration with the University of Adelaide. The Hanson Centre for Cancer Research was established in 1991 and is now the largest Medical Institute in South Australia and one of the top five in Australia.

Variety SA is an 'umbrella' children's charity. It is a professionally run, international organisation dedicated to inspiring hope and enriching the lives of children in need under the age of 18.

95% of all money raised in South Australia is allocated to SA projects. Variety helps all children; both directly and through numerous other service providers.

World Vision

World Vision

During January 2009 Andrew McIntyre, through his role as Vice Chairman of the South Adelaide Football Club, travelled to South Africa as part of a group established through a partnership between the SAFC, World Vision Australia and Edge Church International.

The team of six, visited the rural village of Ixopo near Durban to visit children and their families sponsored by the SAFC and MRS.

Youthinc

Youthinc

Youthinc was established in 2006 to assist disadvantaged youth in South Australia through a range of innovative leadership, employment and enterprise education programs.

Their focus is on re-engaging long-term unemployed and other young people aged 18 to 25+ years who are ‘at risk’ due to lack of education/qualifications, limited or no work history/experience/skill, low levels of personal confidence/resilience, lack of personal support, lack of resources (ID, transport, money) and mental health & personal issues.
